It might be hard to understand how someone (let alone BOTH of us) could just give up successful, growing careers, and decide to start a business online. There has to be a reason, right and WHY RRR247? It was/is a HUGE risk, a HUGE decision, a HUGE change, and there is certainly a HUGE reason for it. Like a lot of our online community, it has to do with my family.
My husband and I married young, much to the dismay of… well, pretty much everyone. We worked hard to learn and grow and build our life together, and start our family. In March of 2008 Mike developed chronic pancreatitis. For 6 and a half years he dealt with, and mostly continued working through, his pain. If you’ve ever had a gallbladder attack, you have an idea of what the pain is like. We spent many a night in one of several local Emergency Rooms.
Finally – Someone Saw The Problem
In November of 2014, one ER doctor FINALLY saw the gallstones, and referred him to a surgeon, who apologized that they even let him leave the ER – he should have had emergency surgery the next morning, not made to wait another week. I had to return with him to the ER – a week after they removed his gallbladder. He needed another procedure and an incision to open the end of the duct and prevent any additional problems.
Mike got 4 and a half years relatively pain-free, before our ongoing nightmare began. One Saturday afternoon, as we painted for a home appraisal, he had a pain that he thought was a kidney stone. After 2 days, I convinced him to go to the ER. The look we gave each other when the ER doctor asked if we’d ever heard of pancreatitis… %$@#! here we go again… but there’s no gallbladder this time so… why?
Over the next year and a half, Mike would see more than several different doctors – and a counselor who told him he had cancer and was going to die. The stress was too much, and he had to take a medical leave of absence. He did/does NOT, by the way, have cancer – I have some words for that woman. What he did have however, was just as detrimental. His bile duct was blocked with scar tissue, and the bile it produced was instead backing up through the ducts of his pancreas – essentially eating it from the inside out.
There is no fixing this – What do we do now?
A doctor finally saw the blockage, and put in a temporary stent – the pain management clinic gave him injections- into his spine – to numb the pain. He was admitted overnight a few more times before the end of the year. We rang in the New Year listening to the nurses celebrate in the ER. He went by ambulance from our local ER to the Cleveland Clinic, while I returned home to be with our children and begin making arrangements. Some of the medications tried by the doctors caused nervous system and memory issues. I had to be there with him, and it was a 45 minute drive to get there daily. We renamed the hospital “The Lake House”. He was there 9 days, and came home with a feeding tube for what started as “a few days” and turned into 8 months and a total of 9 feeding tubes.
We worked with several different (better) doctors to get him evaluated for a TP/IAT surgery. Total Pancreatectomy with Islet Auto-Transplantation. The shortest explanation, is that they removed his pancreas, extracted the cells that produce insulin, and transplanted them into his liver. If they like it there, there is a chance he could NOT be diabetic. He was under anesthesia for 31 hours, and spent 12 days in the hospital. All during a pandemic. His recovery is ongoing. For the time being, and due to being a brittle diabetic with memory issues, needs to be monitored. We cannot afford, nor do I want to pay someone else to monitor him while I work. It has been a blessing to have worked from home since 2016 – now I need to continue to do so.
Still – WHY RRR247?
Once I started looking into this, I knew it was something that would change our lives. I am here for the support and the community of the RRR247 family. They have come up with the perfect system, and they are there to support anyone that wants to learn what this is all about and how to change their own lives. To learn new skills to support my family, to become financially secure, to pay off our debts, to invest in our children and our future. I need to do it on my own terms, in my own home, so I can be with my family wherever and whenever they may need me, and provide us a life we can thoroughly enjoy with less limitations and the support of our RRR247 family. To learn how to help other people provide that same security and lifestyle for their families. Check out RRR247 our Blogging with Rory page for more information – you’ll see what I mean!
